Bath Judo Kwai

The club is fortunate to have Paul Tiley (6th Dan)  as its Sensei and coupled with him are 5 more Senior Club Coaches, all very experienced Judoka, all CRB checked and all qualified First Aiders.
We enter numerous competitions throughout the year both at Senior and Junior level, although there is never any pressure to compete.

Bath Judo Kwai was the first Judo Club in the West Of England to be awarded

Club Mark Acreditation from the BJA in 2006.

We welcome visitors and experienced players at the club, we would like to remind all non members and members that they must hold a current and valid BJA licence. This is in accordance with the current BJA guidelines under which Bath Judo Kwai operates. This is a strict

No Licence – No Judo – No Excuses

policy which allows us to comply which insurance regulations.

Club Ethos

The principle of maximum efficiency, whether applied to the art of attack and defence or to refining and perfecting daily life, demands above all that there be order and harmony among people. This can be realized only through mutual aid and concession. The result is mutual welfare and benefit. The final aim of judo practice is to inculcate respect for the principles of maximum efficiency and mutual welfare and benefit. Through judo, persons individually and collectively attain their highest spiritual state while at the same time developing their bodies and learning the art of attack and defence.

Jigoro Kano (1860-1938); Kodokan Judo

This has been emphasised in a report by Dr. Andrew Moshanov (BJA Technical Director)

"If you aim to win while challenging your own limits, that is wonderful.

If it also improves the person as a human being then that is ideal."

(Quote in 2004 by Yasuhiro Yamishita, 8th Dan, 3 times World Champion)
