Harry Godwin of Bath Judokwai recently entered two national competitions.
At the Heart of England Championships, held at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham as an Identification event, Beechen Cliff pupil Harry, aged 12, had 4 fights against nationally ranked players.
He swiftly won his first fight with a maximum winning Ippon score within 22 seconds. Sadly he lost his second fight to Andrew Pickerill.
He went on to fight John Henry-Evernet but lost by a minor Koka score. The Semis saw Harry fighting Michael Reynolds and winning in 2 minutes with an Ippon.
The Finals saw Harry matched against Taku Kawamoto it went to full time and Harry just missing out on gold but was proud to receive his Silver Medal at such a prestigious event.
For The Junior Nationals Harry went to Ice Sheffield for the first time this year and despite everyone else in his group having a bye for the first round - it saw Harry coming up against his old rival Taku Kawamoto whom he lost to.
This meant Harry was entered into the Bronze Medal Repechage competition which he took full advantage of. He beat Brett Smith and Dan Bollard giving him a place in the second Bronze Medal final. He did not disappoint, and beat Michael Reynolds giving him a proud place on the podium.
